Fishing Report – March 5th, 2023

We had a beautiful day out of the water. It was genuinely a great way to get started with fishing season. But while the day may have been beautiful, the fishing could have been better. It was a tough fishing day, and our guests caught a total of only 7 ling with one lonely cod coming up over the rail.

But even with this slow start to the season, we’re more than optimistic that this is going to be a great fishing year, especially as it gets warmer. Make sure you book your ticket aboard the Marilyn Jean and enjoy a great experience with other fishing enthusiasts.

Clean Ship and Ready to Launch – Approved for 2023

Starting March 4th we are back on the water. We have completed all of our winter’s work, received our annual “Clean Bill of Health” from our USCG inspections, and have even made a few upgrades. Our boat is cleaner and brighter than she’s ever been and, as the weather warms, we are excited to announce that we will also have air conditioned cabins available for those that are looking for something a bit more comfortable during the hotter months.

We even have a few more announcements that will be coming over the next few weeks, but for now, it’s time to start booking your trips. First trip is 7am March 4th and 5th for cod. We’re expecting an active March going into spring across all our best fishing spots.

New York and New Jersey Shore Fish Update for 2021

The Atlantic off the coast of New York and New Jersey has some of the most diverse fishing available in the US. This makes it possible to catch different species at various times of the year, and heading out on a fishing charter is a sure way to find fishing that is both exciting and tasty.

Natural fluctuations in the environment can impact what saltwater fish are available from year to year, however. For 2021, these are the fish most readily found around Rockaway Beach, Jamaica Bay, and the New Jersey Coast.

Types of Saltwater Fish Off the Coast of New York

The species of fish available depend on the time of year, location, and method. The variety of fish in the area also means there is a catch for everyone, whether you are a beginner or pro. Some of the fish populations expected to be sizeable in different seasons of 2021 include:

  • Fluke
  • Flounder
  • Striped Bass
  • Weakfish
  • Bluefish
  • Sea Bass
  • Porgies
  • Blackfish
  • Ling

As a New York fishing boat charter, Marilyn Jean Fishing has in-depth knowledge of the fish in our area. We sail every day, making it possible for us to track fish populations and determine when and where fish are biting.

If you’re new to the fishing world and would like some help along the way, our captain is here to help. We will let you know which fish are active and provide all the right bait to hook them to guarantee you have a good time out on the water. Schedule your fishing trip on the Marilyn Jean today. Spots fill up fast, so make sure that you book your space as soon as possible.

Weekend Wrap Up on the Marilyn Jean IV & V – 7/19/20

Porgy Fishing has remained good to very good during most trips; many days of hitting the limit on what we have been catching.

We have suspended our 9 PM ling trips, as the fish have moved to far off the beach.  We expect to return in the fall, but will keep an eye on this.

On weekends, as needed, we will add a second 7PM to midnight porgy trip.  It will sailing both the Marilyn Jean IV and the Marilyn Jean V in order to keep up with client demand!

Weekend Wrap Up on the Marilyn Jean IV & V – 7/12/20

Porgy fishing remains consistent, with mostly full buckets on every trip.

Weekend Wrap Up on the Marilyn Jean IV & V – 7/5/20

The Friday night ling trip wasn’t great, with some ling being caught in what seemed like horrible fishing conditions.

Porgy fishing on the moon had been challenging over the weekend, but showed a great improvement Sunday 7/5/20 on both the Marilyn Jean IV & V.

Night scup has been consistently good!

Weekend Wrap Up for the Marilyn Jean 4 & 5 – 6/22/20

Half Day trips on the Marilyn Jean IV have been doing well on most trips, both Friday and Saturday.  We had very good porgy fishing with some big keepers.  Sunday we had tougher conditions and a much pickier bite, but still managed to catch a few!

*Don’t forget we start night ling fishing on the Marilyn Jean IV this Friday at 9 pm, online reservations are required!*

Full Day trips on the Marilyn Jean V are continuing to produce a good catch of tasty ling and some porgies.

We are hitting the porgy grounds in the morning which has been paying off with some full buckets.  Then off to the deep for some ling. Remember sea bass season is now open.  As the porgies begin to take hold we will stick with it longer.

Night sea bass and blues have been good, with keeper bass being taken every night; plenty of short action and a nice catch of blues on the chunks.

This week we will start transitioning over to porgies and blues, as the bass bite tends to slow and the vampire porgies move into our area.

We will be fishing everyday this week & weeks to come from Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn NY!
