The Marilyn Jean V offers bottom fishing excursions every morning departing from Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn. With our expertise to get you in the right spot, you are sure to catch sizeable and delicious fish while enjoying a morning out at sea. 7AM Bottom Fishing in NYC

Your day starts between 6:00 and 6:30 AM when you arrive at Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn, NY. The Marilyn Jean 5 departs from Pier 6 or Pier 7 promptly at 7:00 AM when our captain will sail us to a prime fishing location around New York Harbor, Jamaica Bay, Sandy Hook, Coney Island, and other great local spots for bottom fishing.

Depending on the area, we will fish 20’ to 50’ deep. Being on a boat gives you the best possible access to structures where fish congregate, and our experience makes it possible for us to identify the spots that will provide a good catch.

While on board, you have access to restrooms, microwaves, and other appliances to make your trip comfortable. Heating also provides temperature control in the cabin for trips during the colder New York winters.

After a full day of fishing, we return you to the dock at 3:00 PM.

Fish We Catch on Our Morning Trips

Our bottom fishing trips put you right where the fish are active off the coast of New York and New Jersey. The specific fish we target depend on what is in season during the time of your trip. Throughout the year, we may fish for:

  • Ling
  • Seabass
  • Cod
  • Porgys
  • Blackfish

We may also visit reef and wreck sites to catch fish species living in those locations, providing a wide variety of fish you can catch on an excursion. With fish populations changing across seasons, every trip can provide a different experience.

What We Supply and What to Bring

We provide buckets and high quality baits specific to the fish we are targeting. Most passengers will bring their own rods and tackle. For deep water fishing, our recommended tackle includes:

  • 4-8 Ounce Lead Sinkers
  • 20 to 40 Pound Test Line
  • Jigs

If you do not have the gear you need, we have hooks, lines, and sinkers available for purchase. Rods and reels can be rented for $5 per trip.

You will also want to wear clothing appropriate for the weather, keeping in mind that wind and sun can quickly alter the temperature. Sunscreen and possibly a hat are also a must to help prevent sunburn. You are also welcome to bring a cooler of food and drinks (although please save your hard alcohol for after you disembark).
