Do You Need a Fishing License in NYC to Go on a Fishing Boat?

We’re not here to waste your time. The answer is “No.” At least not on our boat, as our boat itself is fully licensed. You can reserve a spot directly with Captain Anthony by calling 347-952-1442 or book your tickets right here on our website.

As of this writing, we are heading out twice a day, every day, but during the year we have days with three trips, one trip, and of course we offer private charters.

But okay, let’s talk about it more:

Do you need a fishing license to go on a fishing boat in New York City?

If you went out on your own, then you would. But boats themselves are able to get a license, and so anyone that wants to go fishing can just go on our boat and fish without their own individual license. That means that as long as you go on one of our boats, both locals and visitors do not need to obtain one themselves.

Now, keep in mind this means that we follow all fishing laws. If you catch a short, for example, we’re making you throw it back. You are supposed to do that by law even if you obtain the license on your own, but some people try to sneak around this. We abide by all local fishing laws, so if you’re not allowed to take the fish home, we’re going to help you throw it back.

That said, it costs $25 for a fishing license and $50 if you’re out of state. You can save that money and enjoy time on the boat to fish with our team.

Not only do you not need a fishing license to go aboard the Marilyn Jean, but you also don’t need:

  • Gear
  • Experience

We are more than happy to provide it all, and take you on the water in one of our air conditioned boats.

So no, you don’t need a license to ride with us. We can’t speak for every fishing boat, but you’re in great hands with Marilyn Jean. Reach out today and go catch some fish!
