The 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. trip this morning had the crew in search mode for porgies and triggerfish. The fish weren’t concentrated in one place, which meant covering ground and working through a few spots before things started to come together. The effort paid off — we found a handful of jumbo porgies worth keeping, and one location in particular gave up 15 to 20 triggerfish before we moved on. Not a wide-open bite, but a productive morning with quality fish and a good look at where things are setting up out there.
Triggerfish have been showing well when we get on the right bottom, and the jumbo porgies we’re finding are exactly the kind of fish worth making a trip for. Both species fight well, both eat well, and both tend to show up together when conditions line up.

Tomorrow’s full-day trip runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. out of Sheepshead Bay. We’ll be targeting porgies and triggerfish again based on today’s scouting, with the possibility of ling in the mix depending on how the fishing develops once we’re out there. Full-day trips give us the time to cover more water and adjust to wherever the bite is best — which makes a real difference when the fish are spread out the way they’ve been.
